Bluenose with Sails Detail

BLUENOSE, with her sleek black hull, was launched March 26, 1921, in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia as a true Grand Banks fishing schooner at a cost of $35,000. Throughout the 1920s and 30s she came to international attention by winning the International Fishermen's Race, the working man's answer to the gentleman's America's Cup. She finally sank off a Caribbean reef in January 1946 not far from where her oldest rival, Gertrude L. Thebaud, struck a breakwater in Venezuela and sunk in 1948.
