The art of making half hull models is as old as ship-building itself. They are traditionally handcrafted by ship builders to give three-dimensional shapes to their hull designs. Our hulls are specially mounted to accentuate the graceful lines on hand-finished mahogany backboards. Brass nameplate included and can be personalized for special occasions.
Half hulls were crafted by ship builders to give three dimensional shape to their hull designs. Olin Stevens, the Herreshoffs, Chris Smith (Chris Craft) and many other famous designers used half hulls to help develop their classic winning hull designs.
Skilled craftsmen make our half hull models which are carefully constructed of planked mahogany strips on bulkhead. They are sanded and have a light mahogany varnish below the water line and above the water line, models have fine lustrous paint. Hulls have a special mounting, there are spacers between the hull and backboard which gives more depth to accentuate the beauty of the hull. Backboards are a dark mahogany finish.
